Learn to make home made soap

Enjoy preparing artisans bars of soap in the beautiful surroundings of the Alpujarra.
You will perform the whole traditional soapmaking process step by step

From how to prepare the base of glycerin or olive oil and lye, to mix, stir, heat, cure... You will understand the chemical reaccions that lay behind and see what happens when adding ingredients such as coffee, chocolate, sulfur, raw goat milk, green or red clay etc.
Our hostess will explain the properties and specific uses of each type, suitable for different skin types, to achieve unique flavors, bright colors, attractive shapes and more or less foamy textures.
You can take home the soap that you like.

Information about the craftsman

The person who runs this studio was awarded with the sustainable development prize of Andanatura Foundation, in recognition of more than 25 years of work in the region dedicated to the production of handmade “jarapas”. She also holds the "Carta de Maestro Artesano" for supporting creativity and craftsmanship.

Information about the area

Bubión is located in the popular Historic Ensemble of Barranco de Poqueira, in the northwestern part of the Alpujarra Granadina, and part of it belongs to the Sierra Nevada National Park. Its altitude of 1,300 m and its central location provides a breathtaking view of the mountains, and even on a clear day you can see both the Mediterranean Sea and Sierra Nevada Mountains from the same point.
The historic villahe center is chracterized by its Muslim-influenced architecture, in which the houses have no roofs but chimneys, the streets have countless fountains and the balconies shine with potted plants and flowers.
It is a good starting point for hiking trails where you can enjoy nature, breathe the fresh air of the mountains and see the beauty of forests and fields full of life of the Alpujarra.
